Everyone loves the feeling of having clean hair. You feel fresh, revived, and sometimes powerful! Well that might be a little dramatic, but you get what I’m saying, it s a GREAT feeling. Personally, when I have dirty hair I do not feel 100% and I am fighting to cover up the oils, revive the day old curls, and tame the frizz. My best friend and I both hate washing our hair because it takes forever to dry. It hurts to detangle the mess and dig out the hair band you have been using all week. Then when the hair gets wet you think, “Ok it was worth it!”
You might be asking what in the world does dirty hair and the Bible have to do with each other? Well I want us to dig deeper and look at what is underneath that hair and that is your mind! Well technically it is layers of skin but we’re not going to be that specific. Just like your hair it is important to keep your mind clean. TRUST ME when you keep your mind filled with clean thoughts that please God you will feel fresh, revived, and powerful! That is not dramatic, it is the truth.
2 Corinthians 10:5-7 King James Version (KJV)
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? if any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s.
This passage in the Bible is saying to “CAST DOWN…” thoughts that are not pleasing to God. Take captive the promises of God and watch the Lord work! My mother has always told me when Satan begins to tempt her she begins quoting scripture and talking to God. Let me tell you, this works! Jesus defeated Satan with scripture in the wilderness and so can we.
I also have another thought I would like to point out. We have all been through the temptation and become dirty in our lives, but through those times we have learned lessons. God has shown us more grace and love and now we are able to help others fight through the same filth! When God gave me this thought my mind went directly to Mary Magdalene. She was a prostitute who thought she had no purpose until Jesus passed her way one day. She was the one who came and broke her alabaster box and washed Jesus feet with her tears. She was willing to get dirty in order to show her love for Christ. What I am saying is sometimes we must be willing to get down in the dirty situations to do God’s work and show our faith. Mary was willing to sacrifice and break a precious possession to show Christ how precious He was to her. She overcame her past and allowed God to clean her up, and this act was evidence that she was willing to serve God no matter what. I believe, in my sanctified imagination, that Mary would rescue girls who walked the path she did, and would share the love of Christ with them, and show them they are truly precious. There may be something we need to give up to show Christ that He is our FIRST LOVE.
To sum it up. Clean out your mind and then be willing to do whatever God has you to do. No matter where or what the situation may be God has a HUGE PLAN!
