The Lord Provides a Ram

Genesis 22:13 (NKJV) says, “The Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son.

Abraham was given a promise that he would have a son named Isaac who would fulfill the covenant between him and the Lord. He had a dream to be the father of many nations. After waiting many years for the fulfillment of this promise, his wife Sarah bore a son named Isaac when Abraham was 100 years old.

Fast forward years after Isaac was born and Abraham hoped in his heart that this was his heir. But, God asked Abraham to give up his son on an altar as a sacrifice. I believe Abraham was shocked and confused in his heart, but he obeyed the Lord’s command and headed on a journey up a mountain to lay down his dream for His great God.

What is the “Isaac” in your life? You might have one or you could have many “Isaacs.” Dreams and promises from the Lord will be fulfilled in His time and way, but we must also come to places of sacrifice and open hands willing to give up our greatest hopes and dreams so that God is first.

The beautiful part is that the Lord was never going to let Abraham kill Isaac, He provided a ram. “Abraham lifted his eyes” and right in front of him was the true sacrifice.

God will test our faith and trust in Him. It is vital that we walk our journeys with hands open to His plans and let Him carry our promises and dreams to the places He intends as we walk in obedience.

Be encouraged that as we lift our eyes in moments of surrender, God will provide our rams as well.
